Can dogs eat deer meat? Game meat for dogs
Absolutely! Deer meat is not only highly valued as a treat in a dog's diet. It is also simply very healthy. Game meat is known for its high palatability and digestibility as well as a wealth of nutrients. It contains high-quality and easily digestible animal protein, B-group vitamins, zinc, phosphorus, and iron, while having a low fat content.
Compared to red meat, deer meat is distinguished by a higher content of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), vitamin B12, and iron, and it is also exceptionally low in calories. Deer, living free in the wild, are constantly active, which translates into lean and well-blooded meat, rich in the highest quality nutrients, often considered a healthier type of meat than that sourced from industrially farmed animals.
Can deer meat cause allergies in dogs? What about game meat?
Although game meat, like any other meat, can cause allergies, deer meat is relatively less commonly used in wet and dry feed, as well as in treats for animals, which reduces the likelihood of an allergic reaction. This also translates into a higher chance of success for an elimination diet.
Moreover, deer and other wild animals live in a natural environment and feed naturally, which also contributes to a lower risk of allergies in dogs and cats consuming game. The absence of industrial farming feeds, antibiotics, and drugs are additional factors reducing the likelihood of allergies.
Deer meat for allergy sufferers and for elimination diets
With 100% deer meat, KB BARF allows for the composition of a mono-protein diet with only one source of protein, ideal for dogs and cats with food allergies. The product contains 500 g of only one type of muscle meat, so you don't have to worry that conducting an elimination diet will be spoiled by the addition of any unwanted ingredient, which often happens with commercial wet, dry food, or ready-made treats.
How much does 1 kg of deer meat cost? Our product
At Raw PetFood, we care about ensuring that the meat we offer comes from trusted suppliers and is uncompromising in terms of quality. We offer deer meat in two weights. The product presented, a 500 g package, is ideal for owners of smaller dogs and cats. It makes an excellent component of a diet for smaller dog breeds or as part of a BARF diet for cats, and can also be used as treats for animals.
For larger dog breeds or if there is a need for larger amounts of BARF-type wet food, we recommend deer meat in kilogram packages. Such a purchase may simply be a more economical choice.
How to serve deer meat and other game meat as dog food?
KB BARF 100% deer meat is great for composing a raw or barf diet for dogs, i.e., natural wet food consisting of raw meat. It is also aimed at cat owners, as part of barf (wet food from raw meat) for cats. After proper processing, such game meat can also be used to produce homemade treats for dogs or cats.
Due to its characteristic, intense scent of game, such treats are particularly well suited for dog training. Deer meat, being an aromatic treat, can also be used to mask less liked meats or the taste of medicines. It can also help in convincing a dog to eat less tasty wet or dry food, which may temporarily be required, for example, due to the animal's health condition.
To maintain the highest quality of the product, before preparing the appropriate portion, we recommend cutting off a section of the package that we want to thaw. The rest should be sealed in a zip-lock bag (or another that can be tightly closed) and put back in the freezer.
When serving raw meat of any kind, we recommend adhering to ordinary hygiene practices. Moreover, before serving game products, it is advisable to check if the portion contains any lead or metal residues.
